I'm bored. I miss everyone from the City. I want to throw a party at my place in Pittsburg, but I don't think anyone will be down to trek out here. And I have to do stupid taxes. Hate those. Miss everybody from the City. |

Last Wednesday morning, Bridgett and I were on the 6:20 am shuttle to Colma Bart station. My blue Jansport weighed on my back with a box of make.a.virus CDs, a trio of rhyme books, my black pair of Airwalks with the recent addition of gray shoelaces (forget when or where I got said laces) and my work ties lovingly stuffed into the smallest pocket. Bridgett's bag carried whatever it is she takes to work, excluding her Monster energy drink (endorsement check please) which she was fortunate enough to get from me (I'd grabbed two from the fridge instead of my regular one).
I had work at 7:30am to 3pm. I helped one of coworkers practice lines for a production of Sound of Music. We practiced all of her act one lines except for the singing. She's an aspiring nun who falls in love with a naval captain widower, with a litter of children ranging from preschool to adolescent.
The rest of work is far too boring to blog about.

Somewhere between the Broken Record show and the People's Park show, I was called and told about a Madrone show. So I'm like, cool. Three Bion shows in a month. That's awesome. Wish I could play 3 or 4 shows every month.
At Broken Record, we played with Dervish, Division One (Influence & Ro Knew), Project Life Nine, a crew called A P E, and 1865. The third Dervish organized show we've played, and the most awesome in a trio of awesome shows. And we barbecued outside behind the venue.
At People's Park we played with Dervish again, Sellassie, Broken Halos, the Slippery Slope, Pride City Purpose, and Benflowz. This one was a S.T.R.O.N.G. show, the musical acts put together by our buddy Rodrigo as a fund-raiser. He always contacts people from a myspace page designed to look like his dog's running it. So everyone kept giving shout-outs to his canine, Iggy Strongpaw.
For Madrone, we came with the same hardware we brought for the last 3 shows (my iPod). At Dervish's shows, I'd call sometime the day before for last minute questions like setup and if I'd have to bring any cabling, etc. For this Madrone show, I wasn't able to reach our contact (tried calling him just after hearing about the show, tried texting him the day before, no response). I ended up bringing the same hardware.
When we got there, there was a bit of last minute panic about whether or not an RCA to 8th inch stereo cable and/or two microphones were present in the club. But by the time I got to the front of the room, I'd immediately counted 3 mics, so that obviously wasn't a problem for very long. Our friend that invited us to play went through Madrone's cables and pulled out the necessary cordage rather quickly.
Other than that, I entered the set on an experiment with the combination of liquid chemicals in my body. Probably just water would be appropriate, but I feel bad being at a bar and not ordering some sort of a drink. Booze before a show can make me a bit sloppier, but ease nervous tension (thus eliminating sloppiness that comes from being jumpy or worrying too much) and energy drinks boost awareness of surroundings, and maybe memorization, but also boost nervousness. So the trade-off is about equal. Loose sloppiness here, gain it back there. I had an energy drink/alcoholic beverage at the start of the show. I was sloppy, and noticing it, which made me more sloppy. I nailed "Look Right Through Me" though.
We were playing with Paul G, Mochipet, the Flying Skulls & Sleepyhead. Our set was between Mochipet and Flying Skulls. Until the day of, I only knew of us and Flying Skulls playing. I believe we were the only emcee centric hip-hop act of the evening. We had fun anyway. My friends frequent Madrone, so they were pretty amped that we were playing here. It's a little roomier than 222 Club, with a DJ booth in the back beneath a pull down screen and a much larger bar. Venue wise, Broken Record had a larger performance space in its back room. But Madrone's a pretty dope spot to see your favorite DJs at (I believe Citizen Ten plays Tuesdays there).
And Snareface's drums are so ill and thickly layered solo, I was curious to see how he'd function in a crew of three. It was pretty cool. More laid back than I'd expect.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, Matt hit me up a few days (maybe a week or so) ago about putting out a 5 song EP or something. I said I'm down. If I'm not touring (which is what I really wanted to do this summer) at least I can log some studio time. I decided not only am I down, but I'd like to have it ready to go by August. Call it August Rush, the idea being, get all the fun stuff you can done before the summer ends and you're back in school and the regular workday intensifies. 5 tracks of Matt's beats, Khemmeta's rhymes, and one of our homie's scratching (can't say who yet, because I do not know). One track was already written a while ago, two tracks I imported verses from earlier non-released songs, which leaves the thesis track (title of this blog) and a track I'm doing based on themes from a manuscript my mom wrote. More on that later.
For now, I'm at work, writing this song as I write this blog. This will be the lead track (give or take an edit or two).

What: Anti-Implosion Campaign Who: San Francisco Hiphop supergroup, make.a.virus: Khemmeta, Kubota & Pleb. Why: To prevent the destruction of the universe by means of implosion, silly. Where: AIC Headquarters, San Francisco, California. How: An 18 track auditory virus in CD or MP3 form.
Khem Says: 2006 went out with a bang, with the release of make.a.virus' Anti-Implosion Campaign, a reinterpretation of what we've thought possible from hiphop to date. With instrumentation from Pleb & Kubota, production and lyrics from resident emcee Khemmeta, various guest emcees, vocalists and musicians with diverse backgrounds from folk to metal etc., Anti-Implosion Campaign is a journey that takes the listener into the misleading mirage light at the end of the tunnel, only to drop them into the fiery inferno of harsh reality. Our heroes lead the listener in a fight for life against the claustrophobic walls of light closing in every direction.
And with all that said, you'll still be nodding your head the whole way through. The production is top notch, the lyrics are audatious, and the final product is incomparable. Rizatek Records' newest recruits are taking the music world by storm, and you don't wanna miss the action.
Score: 10,000,000,000 (that's as close to as many points i can get, for now). |

not a single major disaster. i notice that if i perform songs in a set before going to record them, the record sesh is usually exponentially easier (we've started recording some BIon songs, there're two new ones at the site right now). also i've started wearing the "viral hand" (it might be in a photo somewhere on my myspace, but i'm not sure where and i don't care to look right now).
Have an interview for a full-time job at some hotel called "The W" or something like that tomorrow afternoon. I'd be working the early-ass shift. 6:45am-3:ishpm. Gotta fix my sleeping pattern.
Also, rumor has it that make.a.virus may begin shooting their video for Monitors [silver subtraction] this coming easter. That would be fun. |

Was I ever an underachiever? I'm not anymore. At least, the goals I'm concerned about keep reaching higher and higher (as for the goals others try to impose on me, fuck those people).
So, for the upcoming make.a.virus/bion involution show, as a member of both groups, i have 18 songs to memorize...
These consist of:
1 8-bar verse... (not counting verse-style 8bar hooks) 24 16-bar verses... 1 18-bar verse... 5 20-bar verses... 2 24-bar verses... 2 36-bar verses...
[That's 5 Bion verses, 2 S.O.S. verses (("This is Me")), 1 Matt/Danillo/Isiah/Khemmeta verse, and 27 make.a.virus verses)
So, to take care of my voice, and avoid getting sick for the next month or so, I'm going to...
1. gradually remove dairy entirely from my diet... 2. start drinking tea with lemon, every night... 3. consume less sugar??? (that one's a bit more difficult...) And whatever anyone else tells me is a good idea.
And our special guest for October 19th will be Radio Active, who'll be beatboxing the canvas for "Suffocate" and doing a song of his own, hopefully not stealing more than 5 minutes of the very tightly timed show, which will most likely run long anyway...
I'm stoked. You should be too. See you there. |

Also, Antagony is playing on 6/6/06, with additional metalcore etc. bands i imagine. You want to see that too.
And, coming soon, and most certainly not least of the bunch, Rizatek MVPs Aier Sauft are headlining another show. June 9th. Further details to follow shortly... circle the date on your calendars. |

Imago
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In biology, the imago is the last stage of development of an insect, after the last ecdysis of an incomplete metamorphosis, or after emergence from pupation where the metamorphosis is complete. As this is the only stage that is sexually mature, and has functional wings in winged species, the imago is often referred to as the adult stage.
The Latin plural of imago is imagines, and this is the term generally used by entomologists - however, imagos or imagoes are also acceptable spellings.
Psychology
Imago is also a term used in psychology and psychoanalysis. Carl Jung calls the imago a way that people form their personality by identifying with the collective unconscious. Jacques Lacan uses the term to describe a stage in infant childhood development where the relationship to others is formed by seeing others or a mirror image of the self. [1] Lacan backs up his assertions with biological examples of animals that can only fully mature in isolated captivity if they have a mirror or other image of the self present in their cage.
Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT), developed in the 1980s by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, is a form of marriage therapy that draws from communications theory, psychodynamic Jungian theory, social learning theory, Gestalt theory, cognitive-behavioral theory, and neuroscience. It was popularized by Hendrix's bestselling book, Getting the Love You Want.
Fiction
Imago is the title of a science fiction novel by Octavia Butler, part of her Xenogenesis series.
i'm writing a poem right now, tentatively titled imago. |

I've had a cold/allergy/something since Kenny came down two Tuesdays ago. I guess it must just be allergies, because it's all pretty mild, but it won't go away. I think the sunny today, rainy tomorrow weather might be fucking with my sinuses a bit as well.
Also, as is likely to happen when you're a bad student and school isn't your first or second priority in life, I find myself behind in classes, to the point where last night, I had to pull a good ole' all nighter to start my last 3 weeks of Craft of Poetry homework assignments. It's kinda harder because it's craft-centric, rather than piece-centric, which is to say, when doing assignments I'm NOT supposed to stray (or stray very very little) from the craft elements involved. Which I guess, theoretically makes for better mastery of the crafts, but would (if I consistently did the assignments at the speed that I usually do CW assignments) make for crappy poems. I'm giving myself a brief break writing this before going back into it.
Oh, and if you missed it, THE AIER SAUFT CONCERT KICKED SO MUCH ASS!!! Khemmeta hosted impeccably, Polarized Mind and Girls Rise With Heat represented different factions of Electro goodness, one of KK's friends actually thought the GRWH dude was a girl (which was already the joke on his myspace). And when Aier Sauft was on stage, playing their hit "When the Prime Minister Called" the audience went all sing-a-long mode for the "ON THE RUNWAY" in the chorus. It was fantastic, and KK recorded their entire set. You wish you were there.
Never to worry though, KK and JR are gearing up for another show on April 6 at Cafe Du Nord. This one will be liver, more breakdancy, and even more hyphy than the show at the Mighty. Don't miss out, kids!
Speaking of Rizatek Records acts, make.a.virus (website under construction) is working on leveling/mastering the songs for their album Anti-Implosion Campaign. They've set themselves a looming deadline, and soon it'll be off to the presses, and back to your hands. Until then, your mouths need only froth over in anticipation. Check mav's myspace soon, new, full legnth songs should be going up presently for the enjoyment of all who would enjoy. |

I'm down to writing the last two make.a.virus songs.
Spray Pixelations (Bronze Billions) which revolves around randomly spray painting/vandalizing signs of order, i.e. street signs of all sorts, etc.
And Pro-Explosion Propaganda, the glue on the envelope of the AIC project. The intended final track. Once those songs are written there'll be naught else for me to do but record more vocals. |

my m.a.v/meta hoodie arrived on friday. the make.a.virus back is completely legible and quite awesome. the khemmeta front is less than extraordinary, but i gave them a small graphic and then blew it up... my bad. anyway, the sweatshirt is sick, and jason and keith now want stuff of their own.
also, i've been repping clothing purchases of late, which i usually don't. over the past coupla weeks, i got a pair of pants from old navy, a jacket and hat from burlington, the meta/m.a.v hoodie, and a t-shirt that says "TIME IS AN INVENTION" from whatever that store is melanie works at. i've absolutely no more expendable cash, but i have at least one complete new outfit worth of clothes. i just need one pair of earphones, to go with my new double-sided fishing hat.
also, morgan (m-theory of make.a.virus) has moved down to san diego. he will be repping rizatek and m.a.v. from that sector from now henceforth, until he finishes school and such. there's now an opening for someone to randomly stop by the crib and watch cartoons/upright citizens brigade/listen to music with keith and i. of course, you're all welcome to stop by anyday anyways. |

make.a.virus was interviewed last night at 6:45ish on KSFS's Vaudeville Variety Show. We talked apocalypse, implosion, nuclear physics, auditory sciences, a summer Rizatek tour and premiered an exclusive snippet of an m.a.v. song from the upcoming album.
Speaking of which, we've been talking about doing an Aier Sauft/make.a.virus cross country tour this summer: June or July. That's already 4 acts: make.a.virus/aier sauft/jayone/tadashi.
We'd be heading either to Florida, or New York, although Jason seems to think we should be able to hit Florida, NY AND seattle, which is just sillyness for one month, i think. But basically, a straight shot in one direction, and then back playing every venue on route that we can... perhaps even with some sort of self-powered speakers... so we could make our OWN show, if we can't find a venue in some particular stop.
Keith laid an estimate of the AIC timetable for me, something like we should finish by April... for me that means, of the vocal tracks already recorded (7 songs) i still need additional vocals (like 12 more or something? not that all will make the album).
Oh, and the KHEMMETA hoodie that i ordered got into SF today, so it should be at my apt when i get home. That'll be cool. |

my primary homie in the creative writing program at SF State- Green- randomly waltzes out of the crowd at Malcolm X Plaza today and says hi. i'd heard he "dissapeared into his girlfriend" but apparenly he had a breakdown of some sort that he'd needed time to work through.
